Building for Tomorrow

CapitaLand actively promotes volunteerism in its people, in line with its credo of ‘Building People. Building Communities.’. Its philanthropic arm, CapitaLand Hope Foundation, was established in 2005 to further CapitaLand’s community development commitment of ‘Building For Tomorrow’. CapitaLand Hope Foundation is a registered charity in Singapore.

Since 2005, CapitaLand Hope Foundation has donated over S$23 million to support programmes for the education, healthcare and shelter needs of underprivileged children in countries such as China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, benefitting more than 140 charities. It has also donated to build 25 CapitaLand Hope Schools in China and Vietnam.

As the first company in Singapore to formalise a three-day Volunteer Service Leave, Volunteer No Pay Leave and Volunteer Part-Time Work Arrangement, CapitaLand actively organised over 350 volunteer activities in 2014 to encourage staff volunteerism. Over 3,000 staff in CapitaLand properties volunteered more than 28,000 hours during workdays to participate in various volunteering activities in Asia and beyond, and reached out to more than 27,000 beneficiaries. The overall staff participation rate increased to 22.8% up from 17% in 2013. With over 28,000 hours or 3,000 days of Volunteer Service Leave taken, this translated to an estimated salary cost of over S$320,000.

Most recently, CapitaLand’s year-long #100KHopeHours global volunteer initiative received overwhelming support from the community, garnering over 200,000 pledged volunteer hours surpassing its 2015 target ahead of schedule. This is more than double the target of 100,000 pledged volunteer hours set by CapitaLand in March to mark its philanthropic arm CapitaLand Hope Foundation’s 10th anniversary this year.
