What a Wonderful World (2016)
Type
Sculpture
Artist
Chong Fah Cheong (1946 - ), Singapore
Location
Nine Cairnhill Level 1, Drop off Lobby, Singapore
Inspired by the sights and sensations, the architecture and design of the vicinity of Cairnhill Nine, Chong Fah Cheong created a sculpture titled What a Wonderful World.
The smooth bronze-coloured outer surface balances the textured darker inner surface. The wild swirling form balances the orderly running numbers found on the inner surface. All the elements come together to suggest physical movement, and emphasize the continuity in the making of the sculpture and the sequence of time.
These contrasts and balances create visual interest and attract gaze; perhaps then teaching us that the world will be wonderful if, regardless of external influence, we are at peace internally.
