Building People
Type
Sculpture, Steel, 290x185x120cm , 2008
Artist
Kurt Laurenz Metzler (b.1941), Switzerland
Location
Capital Tower Level 1, Singapore
The title of this unique piece of steel sculpture happens to be the same as CapitaLand’s credo “Building People”, and the work is an amalgam of buildings and people in form. Standing almost 3m tall, the main “person” has two parts: an upper body made up of building blocks of different shapes; and a lower body of stylized legs in trousers and feet in big shoes. To add to the element of fantasy, Metzler placed tiny human beings of both genders on the arms, expressed as staircases, of the person. Are these the small people that scale the ladder of the corporation which is the “big person”?
