Finding beauty in the everyday
First impressions matter, always have your game face on even when you're travelling with these beauty & wellness tips. Hear from Si Yun who's part of our Graduate Development Programme.
What are the beauty or skin care products you cannot do without when travelling and why?
I stick with the basics when
My preference is to focus on skincare instead and to go easy on
Tell us about your recent work travel experience and what you learnt from the trip?
We held a workshop for our colleagues in Malaysia and we invited guest speakers from various sub-markets in the F&B industry. They shared some insights on up-and-coming trends, innovation as well as what their businesses have been doing to stay ahead of the competition.
What stood out for me was the fact that CapitaLand is more than just a 'real estate company'. Beyond acquiring land, building homes or offices, these spaces house our customers who are part of a larger community. It is the experience that we are building and not just spaces that exist in isolation.
It was also a good opportunity for me to meet with our teams in Malaysia and understand the consumer trends, needs and lifestyles better.
As a young graduate, have you been involved in any presentations? Any special routines before or on the day of a big presentation?
Adequate rest is so important. I put on an eye mask, turn on some music and unwind a little to have some clarity in my mind.
What really helps me is to prepare a summary of the main points for the presentation and to run through them before the big meeting.
Most importantly, I make it a point to get up early and give myself ample time to prepare in the morning.
The last thing you'd want is to rush in looking frazzled and forgetting what you wanted to share.
How do you prepare yourself, so you can feel good inside and look good outside?
I believe in eating clean and healthy. It doesn't hurt that I love my veggies and enjoy a good salad. I also love cooking for my family when time permits.
My signature dishes - steak, risotto and dumplings! I draw inspiration from my travels and sometimes I like to switch ingredients up a little to keep things fun. Needless to say, some failed experiments but my family and friends are supportive!
I do some cardio and strength training as well to stay active. It's easy to over-snack when you start working, haha! Going for fitness classes with friends makes the workout sessions more fun. Some of us in the team go for weekly jogs around the area too and that's a good way to meet more friends.
Moving from working with startups to creating value for tenants in premium office buildings, your job rotations seem to be very diverse. Any interesting experiences or takeaways you can share?
My first attachment was with the Group's corporate venture arm, C31 Ventures, which looks at how the Group can invest in real estate of the future to elevate the live, work, play experience for users.
Meeting startups and industry disruptors, I had the opportunity to learn from these visionaries and hear first-hand how they have developed, enhanced, finetuned their concepts and pitched these ideas - sometimes starting with little or no additional manpower. As a fresh graduate, it was an eye-opening experience for me.
I'm now on my second attachment, working with the CapitaLand Commercial team and I am exposed to another facet of real estate development, with a focus on office buildings.
With the largest network of Grade A office buildings in the CBD, CapitaLand offers young graduates like myself a rare opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and understand what it takes for an office building to be different.
Most office dwellers spend a third of their day at work, it is essential for developers like CapitaLand to look at designing, enhancing and curating spaces to inspire and encourage collaboration.
Any beauty tips for undergraduates planning their makeup looks for the work trip? Bold colours or a muted palette?
My recommendation would be a muted palette so you can let your personality, passion and ideas come through.
Pick simple but versatile outfits to complement your makeup. If I have a social event or networking session to attend after a day of meetings, I'd pick comfortable, stylish pieces or play with layers and accesssories to jazz up my look.
Sounds like you’ve had quite an exciting time with CapitaLand! How has CapitaLand helped you build your dreams in your career?
Having studied at
CapitaLand allows me to marry both of my interests. With my major in finance and marketing at NUS Business School, I am grateful for an opportunity to apply what I've learnt and also further my interest in spaces and architecture.
