Our Weekend Guide: 6 Fun Things to do in Singapore
Abandon your boring weekend plans! Follow our ultimate guide for an unconventional weekend in Singapore!
The scene is familiar. It’s nearing the end of the week – and you’ve been racking your brain about what to do this weekend, but nothing comes to mind. Before you give up and assume there’s nothing to do in Singapore, check out this list of new and unconventional things to try this weekend!
INSIDE has rounded up 6 new and fun activities for an unforgettable weekend! Let's get to it!
1. We Are the Furballs Dog Café
Calling out to all dog lovers who don’t have a fur baby of their own! We Are the Furballs – Singapore’s first dog-petting cafe – is home to 10 incredibly adorable dogs. Whether you’re simply looking for a place to spend time with your family or go on a fun date, We Are the Furballs is a great place to make some new furry friends like Slinky the long-haired Dachshund, Bui Bui the French Bulldog and Waffles the Corgi! The dogs are well-trained, and are able to follow basic commands such as “sit” and “paw” so feel free to instruct them to do so, but remember to reward them with treats! You can purchase these doggie treats at $3 per packet, but they run out fast, so get your paws on it as soon as you can.
The playhouse area is open and spacious, which makes it comfortable for visitors and dogs to interact with each other. We’d recommend that you make reservations in advance because the crowds can stream in fast, especially on weekends! After all, we wouldn’t want our little furry friends to feel overwhelmed.
If you need to take a short break from the doggies, you can rest and relax at the café over some drinks or play the board games available. As the café only serves drinks, do grab a bite before coming over.
There are some things to take note before visiting We are the Furballs – all children must be at least 10 years old to enter with adult supervision. As for all other visitors, you must be at least 13 years old. All visitors, including children, are required to present their student/photo ID for age verification. For safety reasons, each adult can supervise a maximum of 3 children at a time, and the supervising adult should be comfortable around dogs too!
2. Arteastiq
Whether you can tell the difference between a Matisse or a Magritte, we can all agree that painting is a really therapeutic activity. Which is why Arteastiq bistro is one of our favourite places to unwind after a long week of work!
Arteastiq bistro has a social painting studio that offers Art Jamming sessions where you can just let your creative juices flow. Here, you get a 50x50cm canvas, unlimited acrylic paint, art supplies and one free beverage from the Arteastiq Boutique Tea House – all for just $48!
There are over 70 in-house tea selections for you to choose from but we recommend the Lady Yang which is an Iced Lychee Tea paired with Lychee Gelato, as well as their Collagen Teas – a series of teas that has peach resin added to them to allow collagen to be more quickly absorbed into the body. Their Collagen Tea series comes with several flavours – Earl Grey, French Rose, Bolivian Cherry, Osmanthus Oolong, Chamomile as well as Dandelion.
They also have various high tea sets such as the Signature High Tea Set, the National Treasure High Tea Set, and their Luscious Seafood High Tea – which all come with 2 specialty teas of your choice
If you’re up for something more filling, they also have a wide selection of dishes intheir all-day brunch menu. The must-tries are the Crab Cake Breakfast ($25) and the Prince of Monte Carlo Sandwich ($21). Recently, they have revamped their menu to include more Asian dishes as well, so be sure to try their Chilli Egg Prawn Fettuccine ($20), and the Sambal Sea Bass & Dry Laksa ($25) as well.
3. The Rink
If you’re looking for more athletic activities, why not try your luck at ice skating? The thought of balancing your entire body weight on a pair of blades may seem daunting at first, but you’ll get the hang of it with some practice! The best possible place to get out on the ice has to be The Rink at Jcube, Singapore’s first and only Olympic-sized ice skating rink!
There’s a basic ice skating package of $18 for adults and $16 for children below the age of 12. You’ll be able to enjoy a total of 2 hours and 15 minutes of ice skating time, and additional rental of ice skates are at $3.50 and $2 for locker usage. You can also opt to pay extra for more add-ons like socks and gloves if you don’t want to bring your own.
Do remember to check out their daily skating schedule on their website before heading down, because you’ll only be allowed to enter the ice skating area if there’s no ice resurfacing or if the national skating team practice sessions aren’t going on.
