5 gifting fails you will identify with
INSIDE speaks with those who have suffered so you will not feel so alone in this season of love.

How is it possible to capture your feelings, thoughts and all the love you have for someone in a single item - a gift?
You're not alone in the struggle. We spoke with some very lovable humans to learn more about the different types of gift recipients.
Perhaps these (horror) stories will set you thinking about your next gift or inspire you to re-evaluate your gifts / recipients. We're here to help if you are looking for the perfect gift.
1. "Did you not refer to my gift registry?"
Ever tried going the extra mile and surprising your friend with an unexpected gift? Remember that trepidation and anticipation as you eagerly await their excitement and "Wow, this is everything I've been dreaming of!"
Instead all you get - "This is not my colour / I'm not really looking for a new wallet / Erm...thanks". OUCH.
Sometimes, it is really wiser to listen to the requests of these folks and give them exactly what they asked for.
No surprises, no stress, no disappointment.

2. "I don't need anything."
This group is challenging - they are either in too deep with this #KonMari decluttering or simply uninterested in material pursuits and looking for the next yoga retreat or travel adventure.
The key is to stop trying so hard. Do not assume that you know best or that you know them better than themselves.
Focus on creating memorable experiences and spending quality time together instead.
Spend your time picking a dinner venue or whisk them away on a surprise vacation.
Check out our Ascott promotions - because romancing your loved ones need not be expensive!
3. "Just give me the money."
It's always the same response. "So wasted, why you buy this / I could have bought (insert long list of items)...", this group of recipients makes the same request every single year.
We cannot help but wonder if it is really a good idea to give them money instead of a gift? How can we show that we've put some thought into it?
Is it a tad strange to just dish out cold, hard cash? Too unemotional? Too practical?

4. "You got me the same gift 8 Valentine's ago."
Okay, let's admit it. Sometimes, we forget what we gifted.
Did we buy that wallet for our anniversary or was it a birthday gift two years back...?
It's not always about a difficult gift recipient; perhaps it is just difficult to give gifts.
And our lives are made harder when the recipients have infallible memories (or perhaps just massive cloud storage capacities to archive every single photo from previous celebrations).
After a few cycles of birthdays, anniversaries or random surprises (just cause)... you inevitably find yourself recycling gifting ideas or looking to your friends for help.

5. "Eh, this is so ugly, this is uncool and this is..."
We can't win them. Nothing impresses them. Scratch the cuddly soft toys - too lame.
Do not even attempt to buy apparel or accessories - too 'last season' or it's just not their colour. No tech gadgets - too mainstream.
Why does gifting have to be so tough?
