I Watched A Movie At Work (And You Can Too)
From Golden Globe winners to inspirational heartwarming films, your next cinematic experience is nearer than you think
Today, I get to watch a movie at work.
I’m not referring to a boring old movie about teamwork and goal setting that one is typically forced to watch and discuss at a mandatory corporate retreat. I’m talking about an actual summer blockbuster.
I'm talking about the latest spiderman movie, i'm talking about the latest Men In Black movie, i'm talking about films that will leave your spirits lifted and your hearts soaring. Yes - this is happening. You can watch all of this right in Singapore's Central Business District. .
Your eyes are not tricking you. This is not a drill. It is happening. Go buy your tickets now.
But if you need INSIDE to convince you just a bit more, read on.

Thrill & Spills
Men In Black: International is filled with secrets and surprises - trains turning into spaceships, side mirrors hiding high-tech weaponry. It is then appropriate that I am in a cinema hidden in an office building right within Singapore’s Central Business District. If you’re a movie enthusiast, you’ll want to avoid the infamous Neuralyzer from the movie because this is a memory that you’ll want to keep.
In collaboration with CapitaLand Commercial Trust, Salt Media & Entertainment operates a 228-seater Big Picture theatre located on the ninth level of Capital Tower along Robinson Road.
The need to destress from a hectic day at work is simply self-care. Some people go to a nearby gym or yoga studio in the Central Business District after work to sweat their worries away, why can’t going to the cinema be the same way? Big Picture screens a selection of the latest commercial blockbusters alongside inspirational and uplifting movies. Laugh, cry, be awed or be completely swept away – the choice is yours. Either way. Catharsis.
If aliens and humans in smart black suits are not your cup of tea, look forward to ‘Spiderman: Far From Home’ which opens on 2nd of July. You can also catch ‘Storm Boy’, an award-winning story about love, forgiveness and our relationship with our families and with nature.
A Visual & Aural Treat
With almost everyone owning a Netflix account at home these days, we demand more of our experiences at the cinema. Most cinemas in Singapore are still on Dolby 5.1 but Big Picture offers Dolby Surround 7.1, bringing more depth and realism to your cinema experience with the addition of two more audio channels. This is immersive sound that makes you feel like you’re in the centre of all the action.
Perhaps, the only thing more distracting than the impressive sound quality is Chris Hemsworth. With MIB International, the Australian star seems to have found his wheelhouse fusing action with comedy, and somehow manages to look even more handsome here.
The magic, here, isn’t exactly Hollywood trickery at work. Big Picture comes equipped with 4K laser projection. Images are sharper and visually arresting. The perfect antidote to staring at your “low res – no rest” inbox for most of the day.
Best seats in the house
The majority of movie plans are foiled not because of your flakey friend or partner, but simply because the seats are not good enough. We’ve got our eye on the seats at the last few rows and once those seats are gone, so does our enthusiasm.
I settled in at the 8th row, and after 2 hours, my neck was not in desperate need of a massage and my shoulders felt fine. In fact, all that was in my head was “I could get used to this”
At Big Picture, the best seats in the house are at the front. At least 8 meters separate the first row from the screen. The gentle slope of the theatre also means that the screen is not positioned too high up. Those at the front row will even enjoy unlimited legroom.
Psst: We’ve got an INSIDE secret. The best seats in the house are along rows 3 and 4. It is free-seating so first come first serve!
The NOMs is PheNOMenal
By now, you should have realised that watching a movie at Big Picture is an elevated experience. The same applies for the snacks and drinks available. Be prepared to go wild at the food kiosk.
Forget about sweet or salty, here you can have your pick of gourmet popcorn. If you’re a chocolate lover, we recommend the ‘Cookies and Cream’. For the more adventurous, the ‘Hainanese Chicken Rice’ or ‘Teh Tarik’ will definitely give your taste buds a jolt. If all else fails, the crowd favourite, ‘Salted Caramel’ is sure to satisfy even the pickiest taste buds.
That’s not all. There is also ice cream supplied by famed local ice cream chain, Udders. Their ‘Chocolate Espresso’ flavour will tempt even the strictest calorie watcher.
Finally, you can have your pick of your favourite soda, but is that really what to you want? Watching a movie at work is an indulgence and we suggest you go all the way. Have a ginger beer or coconut water instead. You’ll thank us later.
So What Are You Waiting For?
For those who relish in the idea of spending long hours at the workplace, catching a movie at the workplace is definitely an option for you. But if the idea of spending another second at the office is too much to bear, think of this as the ultimate act of rebellion.
Boss: “Where are you? Have you seen my email?”
You: “I’m in the building. What email? I am disturbing other people. Let me reply you two hours later”*
A better solution is to simply invite your boss to come along. The theatre is also open for corporate and group bookings. Everyone can ignore big boss together (kidding!)
If you’re a tenant at CapitaLand’s commercial buildings, you’re in luck. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the latest staff appreciation or community engagement activities at the cinema.
*Use the excuse at your own risk. INSIDE cannot guarantee you’ll still have a job after, we can only assure you that you’ll have a good time at the cinema.
