5 Ways To Grow Your Love This V-Day
This Valentine’s Day, do something new for a change to surprise and delight your significant other.
In the first part of our four-part February special, we’re taking a fresh new look at our age-old practice of giving red roses for Valentine’s.
Meet Joe.
Imagine Joe. Joe has a girlfriend. Jane. Jane and Joe have been going out for a few years. Every Valentine’s Day, Joe whips out his credit card to order his usual gift of red roses.
Ah roses. It is always roses. Red. It has to be a bouquet of red roses.
Every year, the bouquet gets bigger. Jane says 'it is for the gram'. The bigger the bouquet, the more likes she gets.
It's a shop full of colourful and interesting choices. Lush and gorgeous plants that would be a delightful addition to any room.
Joe wonders if roses are the only option.
The florist looks at Joe. Joe looks at his watch. It's 630pm. Dinner with Jane starts in 30 minutes.
It's decision time.
-------
If you're like Joe and you're thinking of doing something different, consider a "I love you” plant this year.
It is strange to express your undying love for someone with such an ephemeral object. Yes, not something that would wither in a few days, but something that will grow, and last, and bring you extended calmness, peacefulness, and joy – just like your love.
It also adds to your green credentials and provides more than one IG-moment.
So, without further ado, let us venture into the gloriously green tangle of lovable plants fit for Valentine’s Day!
1. The Heartleaf Philodendron
Give away your heart (metaphorically) with a Heartleaf Philodendron!
It’s also known as the sweetheart plant because of the very definite heart shape of its leaves.
It’s accompanied by lush green leaves and sometimes splashes of other colours, and its long trailing stems make it perfect for displaying on a high shelf or cupboard where its foliage can tumble attractively from the pot.
The Heartleaf Philodendron is easy to care for and its bright evergreen vines will literally spruce up any room.
2. The Bird Of Paradise
Few things or plants are as beautifully named as the Bird Of Paradise.
Let your love soar with this gorgeous plant that comes in orange, purple, and other shades of fantastic.
The Bird Of Paradise is a showstopper of a plant with an unmistakable resemblance to a brightly coloured bird in flight – distinctively striking and spectacularly shaped like a bird’s beak and plumage.
The elegance and structure of the Bird of Paradise enhances its beauty. Love is beautitful, but it also needs to be built on a strong foundation.
This is a paradise that is made to last. A true and lofty expression of love.
Lots of wow here.
3. The Red Anthurium
The Red Anthurium is a unique, bright plant with shiny, red blossoms that are shaped like a heart.
It blooms all year round – like a 24/7 love affair.
Its romantic heart shape and tropical origins make it a symbol of alluring beauty.
It also represents blessings of happiness and abundance – quite the sort of thing you’d like your significant other to have.
The Red Anthurium is very easy to care for, and will continue to bloom without needing a lot of attention.
The plant's heart-shaped leaves add to your message: Two hearts, beating as one. Growing from strength to strength.
4. The Monstera Deliciosa
Okay, we admit. This plant has a rather strange name.
But let’s be less judgemental about names - we're not saying that your significant other is a monster.
Quite the opposite. The beautiful leaves of the popular Monstera Deliciosa is a must-have plant that’ll set the heart of any green-lover racing.
A favourite amongst the new plant-loving generation, the Monstera’s iconic, split leaves are so pretty they’re featured extensively in art and design – its graphic leaves have sprouted onto everything from pillows to wallpaper.
And the plant itself is stunning – like your love.
A plus is that it looks great with many different interior styles.
This is a plant with presence. It has an undeniable impact. Just like the love you and your significant other share.
5. Terrarium
Now, this isn’t exactly a plant. A mini garden perhaps.
However, it’s still alive. And it is small. You can love it like you love your baby.
It also makes for a really romantic Valentine’s Day gift.
As a symbol of long-lasting, beautiful and real love, the terrarium is as good as any other.
This is a plant that will never wither.
It’s great for people living in small spaces – which is almost everyone living in Singapore.
This low-maintenance, space-saving, simply attractive display shows that love can be both mesmerising and practical.
At The Green Capsule, you can order one (or other plants and flowers) before 12th February 2020 to get a 10% discount. You can also book a couple’s terrarium workshop at $70 instead of $76 for the month of February 2020!
