Disinfect your love life, save yourself this Valentine's Day
Thinking about breaking up? Here's 10 places to get rid of the 'virus'. Yup, we’re talking about your 'soon-to-be' ex.
In the second part of our four-part February special, we’re dishing out some tongue-in-cheek tips to exit your toxic relationship.
It’s never an easy decision to make. You’ve been seeing your significant other for a while, but over the past few weeks, you’ve discovered a whole new side of their personality that you’ve never encountered before. It's disappointing and terrifying.
You visit his home only to realise that he has stockpiled mountains of toilet paper rolls and instant noodles. Or you’ve noticed that she has been reselling surgical masks at an exorbitant price on her Carousell account. Perhaps, like Jane, they just did not buy your idea of buying a plant for Valentines’ Day (their loss!). The relationship has gone cold and the thermal scanner is not picking up any signals. It’s time to go.
Breaking up is not the easiest thing to do. You need to decide what to say and how to say it. One thing’s for sure - you should do it in person. However, this begs the next question. Where?
Enough tips on where to go for a date, INSIDE brings you our list of where to break up instead.
1. Urban farm
Distract your (soon-to-be) ex with the gorgeous hues of the setting sun and lush greenery of the urban farm.
When you use the phrase “the grass is greener on the other side”, it will also seem less cliche.
2. Burger joint
Imagine a burger with thick patty, delicious juices and sauces oozing out with every bite. Plus the irresistable side of golden and crispy fries.
It is impossible for the other party to speak (or even object) with their mouth full of food. It's time to break the news.
3. Supermarket
You have an expensive taste and your date just can’t measure up.
Show them your expensive taste in life and your disdain for value packs or the non-organic, non-free range, non-gluten-free, non-GMO instant noodles.
You only want the freshest and the best.
5. Gym
It works best especially after a workout. You’re feeling extra fit, slim and full of confidence.
The endorphins rushing through you will give you the boost and courage to do what you need to do.
6. Art Gallery
Relationships can be complex and abstract, just like art. Your heart is fragmented like a cubism painting, and time is just melting away like how Salvador Dali imagined it. The parallels you can highlight are just endless.
Plus, it is quiet. You’re expected to keep your volume down. Ideal for delivering that devastating breakup line and the other party can’t raise their voice at you.
If they really really need to cry, just say it's a performance art piece. Bring duct tape.
7. After a movie
You want a Hollywood romance not a comedy. You want high quality Oscar winning drama and proper excitement. Not drama of the unnecessary kind.
For when you’re really really tired of their bad acting, it’s time to stop hanging out with the D-listers.
8. Coffeeshop
Small stools, impatient customers writhing around trying to keep every drop of coffee intact. Everything here needs to be 'chop chop' - and that includes cutting people out of your life.
Don’t order coffee for the other person though, unless you’re prepared to answer long, emotional “what went wrong” texts late into the night.
10. Fine dining
Sometimes, it doesn’t have to end badly. Try “conscious uncoupling” - have a goop-approved, beautifully curated meal. After all, good things do come to an end. Be grateful for everything that happened. Celebrate it.
The champagne will put everyone in a good mood as well. Cheers.
