No more boring stay home date nights
Stuck at home with your significant other(s) for the past 8 weeks and counting? Let's keep things fun and exciting.
Before
After
Before we start off this week's story on how we spent our Friday date night, we thought it may be a good time to take stock of 2020 - what has happened or changed - moving forward into a 'new normal'.
Dear post-COVID-19 self,
As we lose count the number of times I've said or heard "unprecedented" this year, we'd like to use this little window to pause and take stock of what we've been up to in the past few months.
From Dalgona coffee to banana loafs, sourdoughs and basque burnt cheesecakes, our Instagram masterchef friends have gone full circle.
Work no longer meant turning up at the office on time, attending meetings, going for lunches, joining discussions or hopping on a train for that evening commute home. The 'office' has evolved to become a makeshift mahjong table or ironing board.
Hanging out with friends no longer meant lunches at new restaurants or cafes at a mall near us. We've moved to Zoom / DUO / Teams and we're probably struggling to find new things to share when your greatest journey in a day is the migration from bed to desk and the occasional fridge runs.
Home is no longer just a place for rest or Netflix. It is now your gym, office space, shopping mall, restaurant, and at some point your kids' classroom (not for long as they start moving back to school).
Amidst these whirlwind changes, we've been seeing the same faces for 8 weeks and counting. In this period, I hope you've found a new flow, new relationship dynamic or learnt new things about each other. Be it with your kids, elderly parents, housemates, spouse or even if it's just yourself - don't forget to be kind and show some love.
And just as we ran out of meal ideas, having exhausted more takeaway options in the neighbourhood and also depleting simple recipes, we've decided to go take FRIDAY DATE NIGHT up one notch by trying the new Capita3Eats.
Here's our first-timer's honest review of the food ordering platform.
Friday, 11:50am
What shall we have for dinner?
The week is almost over, and for some odd reason or other, Friday is always a busy one. Probably because everyone is rushing to get things off their to-do lists, myself included. Is it too early to make dinner plans? Should I head out to pick something up? But i'm also too lazy to put on my mask and the weather isn't the kindest today.
Let's try Capita3Eats - there's free delivery for now till 30 June with orders above S$30. p.s. Fathers' Day meal delivery - DONE.
Picking a restaurant is tough, everything sounds like a good idea when you're hungry.
How about a date night at Clarke Quay! After browsing for a bit, I've settled on Fremantle Seafood Market. Friday fish 'n chips, seafood and a tipple sound like just the perfect weekend prelude.
Don't forget to log in to your CapitaStar account first, so you can earn STAR$. If you're doing a takeaway - you're earning 5X STAR$ from now till 30 June, no minimum spend. A pretty sweet deal!
Friday, 11:51am
What time should we eat?
Since i'm going to have a light lunch, let's go with an earlier dinner delivery time.
I'm choosing 6:00pm so I can catch the sunset before the day ends. Also perfect light for that food photo.
Also because lunch is going to be light, i'm treating myself to a Cream Dory Fish and Chips AND the Pan Roasted Norwegian Salmon with Orzo Pasta.
Okay, maybe also Garlic Fries. Because it's Friday.

Checking out!
The ordering process was easy and smooth!
Just 2 minutes and i'm already making my payment. No delivery charges, yay!
Friday, 5:15pm
Food is coming soon
I get an email alert mid-way through work, reminding me that my Friday feast is on the way!
Thank you Michelle, for picking my dinner up.
Time to get dressed for my own date night!
Friday, 5:45pm
Dinner arrives!
Perfect - just ahead of time!
Could I have eaten out of the disposable boxes? Sure! But should I put in some effort to plate the food for dinner? YES!

Happy tummy
Fish and chips was perfect - cripsy outside and still warm and fluffy inside. Batter was delish and the tartar sauce a delight.
The salmon was slightly overcooked for my liking, but granted it's a long distance between Clarke Quay and where I stay (Tampines, #EastSideBestSide). Garlic fries accompanied me for Netflix Friday.
Did I enjoy my Friday date night with myself? YES. Will I order again on Capita3Eats? YES.
But I may just use the wooden spoon and fork set they thoughtfully provided. Of course, I found this in the bag after dinner (and dishes).
