CapitaLand receives the most wins at Singapore Corporate Awards for the second consecutive year
Singapore, 18 July 2018 – CapitaLand has emerged the most awarded group for the second consecutive year, winning four awards at the 2018 Singapore Corporate Awards. CapitaLand Limited was conferred the silver award for ‘Best Managed Board’ in the category of ‘listed companies with S$1 billion and above in market capitalisation’ for the second year in a row. In the ‘REITs and Business Trusts’ category, CMT clinched two silver awards for ‘Best Investor Relations’ and ‘Best Annual Report’; while CCT obtained the gold award for ‘Best Annual Report’.
CapitaLand Limited – Best Managed Board (Silver)
The ‘Best Managed Board’ award celebrates companies with exemplary environment, social and governance practices. Additional criteria such as leadership, transparency, performance and shareholder value creation are also taken into consideration. The winners are chosen following a rigorous three-stage selection and judging process. About 10 companies were first shortlisted based on publicly available information on total shareholder returns, corporate governance practices, and corporate governance indices. The shortlist was further narrowed upon additional research and discreet inquiries. Lastly, a panel of judges met and interviewed the boards of companies to rank the top three companies.
Mr Ng Kee Choe, Chairman of CapitaLand Limited, said: “I am pleased to receive this award on behalf of the CapitaLand Board. We are honoured by the continued recognition of our efforts towards the highest standards in corporate governance, sustainability and shareholder communications.”
CapitaLand Mall Trust Management Limited – Best Investor Relations (Silver) & Best Annual Report (Silver)
Mr Tony Tan, Chief Executive Officer for CapitaLand Mall Trust Management Limited, said: “As the first REIT and largest retail REIT in Singapore, CapitaLand Mall Trust constantly strives to provide pertinent and accurate information to our unitholders and the investment community in an effective and timely manner. We believe in establishing and maintaining regular dialogue with our unitholders to solicit and understand their views. Receiving recognition in both ‘Best Investor Relations’ and ‘Best Annual Report’ award categories will further motivate us to build trust with our stakeholders through regular interactions and timely information disclosures.”
The ‘Best Investor Relations’ award recognises companies with comprehensive, responsive and transparent investor relations practices while the ‘Best Annual Report’ award recognises the excellence and clarity in financial reporting and presentation. It also considers a wider scope of disclosures beyond minimum regulatory requirements that are in tandem with the needs of investors and other stakeholders such as employees, creditors and the general investing public. Winners for both awards were first shortlisted based on public information and research, then evaluated and ranked by a panel of judges.
CapitaLand Commercial Trust Management Limited – Best Annual Report (Gold)
Mr Kevin Chee, Chief Executive Officer for CapitaLand Commercial Trust Management Limited, said: “As Singapore’s first and largest commercial REIT by market capitalisation, investors look for consistent disclosure of management’s strategies, performance, sustainability efforts and market information when they review CapitaLand Commercial Trust’s (CCT) annual report. The report is therefore a vital tool to communicate CCT’s journey as it navigates through challenges and creates value for unitholders. Clinching the gold award for ‘Best Annual Report’ attests to CCT’s continual commitment to accountability and transparency in our disclosures and we are thankful for the recognition.”
Inaugurated in 2005, the Singapore Corporate Awards is co-organised by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, the Singapore Institute of Directors and The Business Times. It is also supported by the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority and the Singapore Exchange (SGX). The awards recognise SGX-listed companies as well as individuals who, through their corporate practices, have helped to raise Singapore’s corporate disclosure standards and corporate governance.
