Mr. Chen Lian Pang, CEO of CapitaLand Vietnam said, “CapitaLand is committed to building communities. I am glad that this event has allowed underprivileged children experience and enjoy fun-filled activities such as swimming and playing at the swimming pool. When we grow on the business front, we must not forget to give back to the local community through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. Children are the future of a nation, and CapitaLand Vietnam strives to do our part by building up the younger generation in Vietnam too.”
Besides sponsoring the entry fees for the street children and caretakers of the Rosary Centre, CapitaLand Vietnam also sponsored breakfast and lunch as well as a goodie bag containing daily necessities such as notebooks, rice, instant noodles, cakes and milk for the children to share with their families.
Street children, mostly orphans and those from poor families, are considered one of the most underprivileged in Vietnam society. Leading their lives in harsh conditions, these children have to work extra hard to support themselves and, in many cases, their parents or relatives too. While other children at their age enjoy food and toys, street children must work for their basic needs by selling lottery tickets, balloons, and collecting bottles and cans. CapitaLand Vietnam believes that street children deserve an opportunity for fun as other children do, thus this Swimming Day event was organized to bring an enjoyable childhood experience to them.
CapitaLand Vietnam has been actively involved in helping the community, and organizing this Swimming Day for the street children of the Rosary Centre in Ho Chi Minh City is just one of CapitaLand Vietnam’s CSR activities. CapitaLand has now built two Hope Schools in Vietnam for 400 students, in Phu Tho and Long An provinces. This year, we are also identifying the location for a third Hope School in Vietnam. Other CSR initiatives include blood donation drives, first-aid training, and festive activities for underprivileged children. As a Group, CapitaLand contributes 0.5% of our profit for CSR initiatives.
