Esplanade Presents Candy Garden Ahmad Abu Bakar (Malaysia and Singapore)
- 14 May - 05 Dec
14 May – 5 Dec 2021
Comprising suspended popsicle-coloured ceramics, Ahmad Abu Bakar's Candy Garden offers an escape into a playful and surreal dreamland. In this installation, each ceramic of various sizes and forms was thrown individually and decorated with coloured horizontal lines on their bodies, and bases of floral motifs and geometrical designs. Modelled after structures and patterns found in everyday life, these pieces are symbolic forms that allude to the ways our natural and built environments coalesce to construct ideal conditions of living. Candy Garden thus invites deeper contemplations into such notions of perfection, especially as the relationships between our natural, urban and imagined environments become increasingly complex.
