During its initial years, the brand sold orthopaedic products focused on arch supports but realigned its business model to sell tailored sneakers. The Boston-based giant has since expanded rapidly with over 5,000 stores in 120 countries including Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore.
At the nucleus of the company, the brand accentuates authenticity and a contrarian approach, where they continue to manufacture their products domestically in the United States and the United Kingdom instead of outsourcing production to cheaper regions.
New Balance takes a pragmatic and evolutionary approach to its sneakers in the 70’s, engineering its proprietary Fresh Foam technology which features ultralight foam with transcendent cushioning. In addition, New Balance’s shoes pack a springboard-bounce with its midsole innovation – FuelCell which is injected with nitrogen to improve energy return and running efficacy. One of New Balance’s arguably most recognised sneakers would be the 574 model which features a non-marking rubber outsole, EVA foam midsole, and classic suede uppers which provides breathability to the forefoot.
