3 Secret Photo Spots in Singapore’s Civic District!
Join CapitaLand’s Explore the City #INSTAWALK and hunt for your next IG-worthy spot
CapitaLand INSIDE recently ducked out of the office and into our city malls to experience the ‘Explore The City’ local tourism campaign. We got a first-hand experience of the Civic Colours #Instawalk hosted by Tribe Tours and here’s some snippets from our tour of the Civic District. You can look forward to hidden photo spots and tips to help you level up your Insta game with the help of our friendly tour guide and a designated influencer for every tour!
Be ready to transit from heritage vibes to modernity with each building telling its own story.
📍 #1: Raffles City Singapore
We started the Civic Colours #Instawalk at Raffles City Singapore. Built in 1986 and on the former site of Raffles Institution, Raffles City Singapore has transformed the city’s skyline with its aluminium-finish and geometric designs - a modernist contrast to the Victorian and classical architecture in the Civic District.
From Raffles City Singapore enroute to Funan, we passed heritage sites such as Capitol Theatre and St Andrews Cathedral.
And if you're a history buff, here's 5 things you didn't know about Raffles City!
Photo tip 📸: When taking a shot of Raffles City Singapore, remember to use the leading line concept as a guide! The line leads our gaze to a particular subject and is the best technique to be used when taking photos of buildings, streets and bridges etc. |
📍 #2: Funan
As we transit from black and white buildings to Funan with its multitude of colours, be amazed by this creative hub for live, work and play options! You probably know by now, the former Funan DigitaLife Mall was home to electronic and IT retailers. It was then redeveloped into Funan, a new-gen mall with experiential and activity-based retail to attract young and savvy consumers.
Take centre-stage with the Tree of Life – a 25-metre tall steel structure that represents a habitat for creativity, and this manifests in platforms up and down the tree. Each platform is a flexible space that centres on a passion or hobby, bringing a differentiated experience for shoppers with interesting pop-up concepts. You can even choose your favourite coloured lighting in the backdrop as the lights constantly changes colour to enliven the retail space. Perfect for your next Instagram video.
P.S. our tour guide shared this hot tip - did you know that there’s an elevator that brings you directly to Level 7 of Funan? The rooftop is home to one of the few urban farms in Singapore that is open to public! The urban farm is designed as an educational and interactive space where you can learn about different varieties of edible plants that can be grown locally.
Our friendly influencer joining us on the tour also showed us the best spots to take all those Instagram-worthy scenic shots. Join the tour to find out where these spots are!
Photo tip 📸: This is one of the best spots to get a full view of the urban farm in its entirety against the ethereal blue sky. |
📍 #3: Clarke Quay
Next stop, Clarke Quay!
On the way, we passed by the famed building also known as Old Hill Street Police Station with its iconic rainbow-coloured windows you’d have seen in #OOTDs on Instagram.
Strike your best pose (we’re just influencer wannabes) with tips from your friendly influencer guide.
Photo tip 📸: Pick your favourite colour and pose! Pose against the window ledge or do some walking shots for variety. |
We then moved on to the pastel pink building – Whampoa Ice House right beside the Singapore River.
We were clued in on a spot nearby where you can take an artistic shot of the Singapore River and the colourful shophouses along the river.
A little further in and at the heart of Clarke Quay lies the Fountain Square. By the time we got there, it was the best hour to take that picture-perfect night shot of the fountain.
This was definitely our shot of the day with the LED lights and a colourful kaleidoscope of shophouses in the backdrop!
Photo tip 📸: Use a wide angle lens to capture more! Make sure you've got all the beauty of the landscape in your frame. |
Wait...There's More!
