Ascendas and UEM Sunrise Breaks Ground for Nusajaya Tech Park, Iskandar Malaysia

Johor, Malaysia, 12 June 2014 – Asia’s leading business space solutions provider, Ascendas Pte Ltd, and UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise”), today celebrated the groundbreaking of the Nusajaya Tech Park, an integrated tech park located at Gerbang Nusajaya, within Nusajaya in Iskandar Malaysia. The ceremony was graced by Malaysia’s Minister of International Trade and Industry, Y.B. Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, and Singapore’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Lim Hng Kiang.

Strategically located just minutes from Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Expressway, the 210-hectare (519 acres) integrated tech park will be developed in phases over nine years. The start-up phase spanning 28 hectares (71 acres) of Ready-Built Facilities and land plots for Build-to-Suit developments will be completed by 2016. When fully completed, the park is expected to support some 200 enterprises. At the first release, the park has received 40% pre-commitment for the Ready-Built facilities in the start-up phase.

At the event, major precision engineering and manufacturing corporation, Sanwa Group of Companies (“Sanwa”), leading integrated logistics and supply chain solutions partner, YCH Group, and Malaysia’s leading integrated information communication technology (ICT) and business process outsourcing (BPO) services provider, VADS Berhad, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia, participated in a signing ceremony indicating their interest in Nusajaya Tech Park. Sanwa is exploring to take up a 72,000 sq ft facility for their precision engineering and manufacturing operations. YCH Group has teamed up with Nusajaya Tech Park to explore developing a state-of-the-art supply chain facility (DistriPark™) operated by the group within Iskandar Malaysia. VADS Berhad is exploring to set up a data centre in the park.

A joint venture development by Ascendas and UEM Sunrise, Nusajaya Tech Park leverages on the two partners’ expertise and features a masterplan that focuses on effective and functional land use. An ecologically-advanced design enabled the Park to achieve the Merit Award in the Master Planning Category at the Singapore Landscape Architecture Awards 2013. The Park also set a new benchmark as the first tech park in Malaysia to be awarded Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA)’s Green Mark for Districts – Gold (Provisional) Award.

A proposed rapid transit system within Iskandar Malaysia and a Singapore-Kuala Lumpur high speed rail link are already in the works, strengthening the park’s connectivity and enhancing its international appeal.
