We Stayed Home and Built a Terrarium
Shopping 24/7 on eCapitaMall (yay to free delivery)
It’s been over three months since we started working from home. By now, a lot of us would probably be surprised by how much time we can spend at home with our loved ones.
I’ve come to terms with the new normal – that is, staying home. Thought it is high time I should look at sprucing up my place, for more uplifting and pleasant daily encounters.
For starters, I’ve checked off simple touches to make parts of my house more insta-worthy, purchasing HOOGA diffusers, marble porcelain plates for a “restaurant-touch” when dining at home and filled out Scandi-inspired vases with eucalyptus leaves.
When I came across The Green Capsule's terrarium kit on eCapitaMall, I was curious and thrilled about the possibility of doing a #homeproject with my six-year-old and perhaps find a new home for her mini toy animals.
With free delivery with no minimum spend and the chance to earn STAR$ as a CapitaStar member – my mind is saying, go for it and stop procrastinating.
My first open succulent terrarium DIY kit
The kit arrived at my door step and I was ready to get in touch with my crafty side. I was all set up for The Green Capsule’s live jamming session in a few days’ time.
Here's what arrived for my first #homeproject:
1. 1 glass jar measuring 15cm in diameter
2. 1 pack of soil
3. 1 pack of lecca
4. 1 pack of pebbles
5. 3 assorted succulents
6. 1 pack of moss
7. 1 stirrer for digging & adjusting soil
8. Instruction sheet
9. A box carrier
10. A gift card
11. A figurine
Let's get our hands dirty!
1. I created two layers of lecca at the bottom of the glass jar, making sure not to fill more than 1/3 of the jar. Then I used the back of a plastic spoon to smoothen out the layers.
2. Next, add a layer of soil. Using the spoon, I created some burrows for placing the three succulents.
3. Succulents have found their home. I covered the surface soil with more lecca and pebbles. The glass jar looks almost alive.
4. With gentle hands, I lay the moss in the rest of the spaces.
5. Finally, the moment my daughter has been eagerly waiting for, introducing the little yellow rabbit in in this little new world I created in less than an hour.
This weekend child-parent activity has certainly sparked off a wave of imagination in her head.
The folks at The Green Capsule has kindly packed more materials in the kit than what you will need for the terrarium, so you do not have to use everything up. Voila!
