CapitaLand Group CFO accorded Best CFO of the Year Award at the Singapore Corporate Awards 2015
CapitaLand Mall Trust bags silver award for Best Investor Relations and bronze award for Best Annual Report
Singapore, 8 July 2015 – CapitaLand Limited’s Group Chief Financial Officer, Mr Arthur Lang, has been accorded the prestigious Best Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Year Award for listed companies with market capitalisation of S$1 billion and above (large cap) at this year’s Singapore Corporate Awards (SCA). The Best CFO Award recognises and acknowledges exemplary CFOs who play a significant role in supporting, advocating and promoting good corporate governance, disclosure and transparency; are exemplary role models in corporate financial disclosure by going beyond regulatory financial reporting requirements; as well as help create long-term sustainable shareholder value.
The Best CFO was identified following a rigorous three-prong process. First, CFOs were shortlisted using the Singapore Corporate Governance Index (SCGI), designed by Sim Kee Boon Institute of Financial Economics – Singapore Management University and evaluated based on the results for the "Disclosure and Transparency" index and the score on "Investor Relations”. The CFO’s contributions and achievements to the company were then endorsed by the company’s CEO and Audit Committee Chairman before analysts from selected financial securities research houses were sought for their opinions and ranking of CFO candidates. Shortlisted CFOs were then put through thorough evaluation by a panel of judges, supported by auditors of the CFO’s company.
CapitaLand Mall Trust (CMT) also won two awards – silver for Best Investor Relations and bronze for Best Annual Report in the REITS and Business Trusts category. Winners of the Best Investor Relations Award are described as exemplary role models in investor relations practices who go beyond mandatory regulatory requirements in quality of disclosure, corporate transparency and fairness in disclosure, while the Best Annual Report awards encourage excellent financial reporting presentation and a wider scope of disclosures beyond minimum regulatory requirements that are in tandem with the needs of investors and other stakeholders such as employees, creditors and the general public.
Mr Lim Ming Yan, President & Group CEO, CapitaLand Limited, said: “A strong management team and effective investor relations are the bedrock of a successful company. I am pleased that CapitaLand has been recognised in both these areas at this year’s Singapore Corporate Awards – with Arthur clinching the Best CFO award, and CMT winning awards in the Best Investor Relations and Best Annual Report categories. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Arthur and the CMT team, and look forward to working 2 together towards raising the bar for corporate governance and actively engaging the Group’s stakeholders, including investors and capital partners.”
Mr Arthur Lang, Group CFO, CapitaLand Limited, said: “It has been a wonderful journey thus far and I share this award with the many people who have helped me throughout – my Group CEO, Chairman, Audit Committee Chairman, the Board and my wonderful team of colleagues. The CapitaLand CFO role is an interesting one and I am very fortunate to have been given this opportunity. This position allows me to combine my knowledge, experience and interests in strategy, real estate, finance and international capital markets all into one. Thank you.”
Mr Wilson Tan, CEO of CapitaLand Mall Trust Management Limited, the manager of CMT, said: “We are honoured to be recognised for our strong track record in investor relations, and clarity and disclosure levels in our annual report. We strive to keep our stakeholders closely informed of all major developments through various communication channels in a clear and accessible manner. Excellence in investor relations is an ongoing process. We will continue to make timely disclosure and engage our stakeholders regularly as we grow our business. I would like to thank our Board of Directors for their continued guidance, investors and analysts for their feedback and support, and our staff, who made these awards possible.”
SCA is co-organised by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, Singapore Institute of Directors and The Business Times, supported by the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority and the Singapore Exchange. The awards seek to recognise and honour SGX-listed companies as well as individuals who, through their corporate practices, have helped to raise Singapore's corporate disclosure standards and corporate governance.
