Farewell Huddles and Handshakes, Hello Safe Distancing and Face Masks
In the wake of COVID-19, CapitaLand is here for its tenants, working alongside to overcome the pandemic together.
2020 will go down in history as the year of the COVID-19 crisis – when global economies took a severe beating from the coronavirus; when countries accepted strange new norms that separated friends and families for the sake of public safety; and when personal handshakes and warm hugs gave way to safe distancing and face masks. Whether at home or at work, we coped with the abrupt change to familiar habits and seasoned routines.
At CapitaLand, we understand the uncertainty and worries that our tenants and visitors are facing, and aspire to do more to support them in these trying times. Because their safety and well-being are our key priorities, hygiene protocols such as the sanitisation of common facilities and high-contact surfaces have long been part of our service norms, even before COVID-19 found its way into societies.
Going above and beyond to allay health and safety concerns
Nonetheless, when the rubber hit the roads, one of the first things we did was to set up temperature checking posts and thermal scanners the next working day after the DORSCON Orange alert. To better protect building users, we increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfection for lifts, lobbies, washrooms and high-traffic touchpoints. Ventilation within our buildings was improved with increased fresh air flow and frequent servicing of the air conditioning systems; and water quality maintained by regularly flushing the water systems.
Above all, we understood that peace of mind mattered most. A designated team of hygiene specialists was put on stand-by to clean and disinfect premises exposed to confirmed cases of COVID-19. Regular tenant communication became even more vital, and our facility managers would immediately reach out to tenants of affected buildings to update them on the measures taken to keep their work premises safe.
“From the onset of COVID-19, Cora and Hong Yeow from CapitaLand’s property management team have been working late into the nights to ensure that all the precautionary measures are in place… As I have worked with various facility maintenance teams in the past, I must say that… both of them do not treat this work as just their jobs, you can see the passion in them. Thank you!”

We're in this together
Expressing solidarity with our tenant communities in the fight against COVID-19, Mr Jeffrey Chua, Senior Managing Director (Operations), CapitaLand Singapore said, “We know that adapting to the new normal has not been easy for businesses. For some, the difficulties with digital adoption have taken a toll on bottom lines. For others, the absence of daily interactions and coordination due to working from home has resulted in reduced productivity.
“As office managers ourselves, we fully empathise with what tenants may be going through. Where practicable, we have made available contingency space to companies who needed help with business continuity planning. We have also come up with a CapitaLand Tenant Services Pack to help expedite some of the new administrative processes and to offer greater peace of mind, as companies reopened for business after the Circuit Breaker,” he added.
“The cleaning uncles and aunties at CapitaLand have done an amazing job keeping the premises clean and helping us fight the COVID-19 war. They’ve made us feel safe and secure coming to work. Thank you all for your hard work and sincere efforts.”

Supporting our tenants' return to the workplace
The CapitaLand Tenant Services Pack is intended to ensure the practice of safe distancing and contact tracing, and the proper cleaning and sanitisation within tenants’ work premises. It also leverages CapitaStar@Work, CapitaLand’s workplace mobile app, as a convenient platform for the implementation of new safety and hygiene protocols at work.
“We anticipated that companies would be caught up with the demands of business activities once their operations resume and the employees return to work. Our goal with the service pack is to provide a one-stop access to a full suite of business continuity services. This would allow tenants to focus on mission-critical operations, while we offer some help in terms of the new routines or office management procedures,” Mr Chua explained.
Companies who wish to sign up for the CapitaLand Tenant Services Pack can also be assured of preferential rates, in addition to quick and fuss-free set-ups for the following services:
Sanitisation Services
One-off or regular sanitisation services available, ranging from fogging and misting service, to regular disinfection wipe-down service, and the application of advanced anti-microbial coating onto high-touch surfaces for long-term protection.
Thermal Scanning System
Contactless temperature scanning at tenant premises, complete with automated alerts and photo capture when detected temperatures exceed pre-set thresholds.
Workplace Sensors
Dedicated sensors at entry points, in meeting rooms and other spaces within tenant premises, with automated alerts when detected numbers of occupants exceed pre-set thresholds. Integration with tenants’ meeting room booking systems is optional.
Office Pre-Check-In
Gauge expected turnouts in the office by allowing employees to do pre-check-ins up to five days in advance via CapitaStar@Work app.
Contact Tracing
Enhance contract tracing in office by enabling employees and visitors to check in at various spaces and meeting rooms within tenant premises using CapitaStar@Work app. Data is captured and shared with tenants for easy retrieval and reference.
Working together to stay safe
While work lives have changed dramatically as a result of COVID-19, some things have not—and this includes the service commitment at CapitaLand. We will continue to uphold tenant safety and well-being as a top priority, and work together with all our stakeholders to overcome this pandemic.
