Over many years, Han Mei Lin collected ancient Chinese scripts and symbols, which were discovered on tortoiseshells, ceremonial bronze wares, stone drum, earthen ware and rock painting. Though the meanings of these pictogrammes have been lost, Han still draws much inspiration from thousands of them to form works of art. In this particular piece, he uses an even tone of grey to paint each character or symbol so that the viewers can better focus on their shapes. One admires the composition as if it is an abstract painting.
