Virtual Volunteering Sessions

Update: Registration is closed for all the virtual volunteering sessions. Please email us at ywc@capitaland.com if you wish to be on the waiting list.

If you love interacting with children, and enjoy telling stories, this is for you! Join us on an exciting virtual volunteering session with children and youth with special needs as we bring fun and learning to them through storytelling and get crafty with a short play activity following that.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Work in pairs to lead and guide a class of students from start to end.
  • Narrate a story (At the S.E.A Aquarium by David Seow) to the students over Zoom. Use your creativity, materials and bring the story to life for these students!
  • Demonstrate the craft activity to the students. Volunteers will be guiding the students how to make their own mini aquarium.
  • Volunteers are required to attend a briefing session to be equipped with the necessary knowledge of the activity. Details of the session will be provided at a later date.

Register via the form below. If you are unable to register, you may click here or email us at ywc@capitaland.com.

    2. What is the profile of the beneficiaries I’ll be volunteering with?
The beneficiaries are students with special needs from Rainbow Centre’s Special Education Schools at Margaret Drive and Metta PreSchool @ Punggol. Students range from 3-12 years old and have a diverse range of developmental and learning needs, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and multiple disabilities, which may involve a combination of intellectual, physical, visual and/or hearing impairments.
    3. How many students will there be in the class?
Volunteers will be assigned to a class of about 4-10 students. Their teachers and caregivers will also be present in the class.
    4. What do volunteers have to prepare for the activity?
Materials will be provided for the volunteering sessions, including the book and the activity kit. For the virtual volunteering session, ensure that you have a stable Wi-Fi connection, a good camera and set up.
    5. I do not have experience conducting a virtual volunteering session. Will training be provided?
Do not worry if you do not have experience conducting virtual volunteering. A briefing session will be conducted for volunteers to be equipped with the necessary knowledge on how to engage with the students. During the virtual volunteering, teachers will also be present to guide the students along the activity. We strongly encourage you to do a rehearsal with your volunteer partner prior to the volunteering activity so that you are clear on your respective responsibilities.
    6. Whom will I be paired up with?
You will be paired up randomly with another volunteer and we will share your email addresses with each other to facilitate conversations. If you wish to participate in pairs with your colleague for the volunteering activity, please indicate the preferred person in the comments section in the registration form.
    7. Can we participate as a company for this activity?
Yes, we welcome tenant companies to join us by sending in volunteers as part of your company’s CSR activity! Please email us at ywc@capitaland.com and we will get in touch with you.
