Sustainability Framework (Build, Enable & Steward)
At CLI, we are committed to growing responsibly, creating long-term economic value, and enhancing the environmental and social well-being of the communities we serve. Guided by our three sustainability pillars — Build (Environmental), Enable (Social), and Steward (Governance) — we aim to amplify our positive impact on both society and the planet.
Our commitment is embedded across the company. CEOs of our business units serve as Sustainability Champions, accountable for sustainability performance. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are tied to the remuneration of all staff, including senior management, with progress consistently tracked and transparently disclosed.

Investments
- Conduct Environmental, & Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for new investments*, including comparative analysis of asset environmental aspects with portfolio’s ESG strategy, & assessment of physical risk, safety, & selected social impacts
- Shadow internal carbon price used to quantify future carbon value exposure of asset, & to calculate a Return on Sustainability for all green investments, where feasible
Asset & Portfolio Management
- Develop asset-level ESG plans leveraging operational & asset management expertise.
- Periodic climate risk analysis to determine green capital expenditure allocation strategy
- Regular fund reporting to key stakeholders
- Participate in internationally recognised ESG frameworks e.g. GRESB
* The ESIA is carried out during the feasibility study as part of its due diligence of CLI’s investment in operational assets or development projects, including pre-purchase, acquisition, and investment of new properties. This involves establishing the baseline environmental performance metrics such as energy efficiency and comparing it against CLI’s 2030 sustainability targets.
Sustainable finance
We leverage sustainable finance for decarbonisation. Since 2018, over S$20.3 billion in sustainable finance has been raised by CLI, including its listed REITs & business trusts.
Our carbon mitigation strategy
Our decarbonisation pathways reflect the operationalisation of our Carbon Mitigation Hierarchy.
CapitaLand's Sustainability Journey
Since we started our journey in 2000, we have built a firm foundation that has made our business resilient to the sustainability and economic challenges faced by the real estate industry.
