President's Challenge

President's Challenge (PC) is an annual fundraising initiative by President of the Republic of Singapore to raise awareness and invoke action to help the less fortunate in the community. Since 2008, CapitaLand has been supporting children's charities of PC through CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF). In 2018, CHF expanded our support for elderly charities under PC. CHF has donated more than S$3 million to support 40 charities in Singapore under PC to-date.

Past Events

2020

CapitaLand, through its philanthropic arm CHF, donated S$200,000 to President’s Challenge 2020 through the #CareKitWithLove initiative. Together with like-minded key partners, Metta Welfare Association, Heartware Network, BERNINA (Singapore) and Funan, the initiative aims to rally the community to sew mask pouches for children and youths with special needs and frontline staff from special education schools. Virtual arts lessons were conducted for students with special needs, giving the community an opportunity to engage and teach them how to personalise their mask pouches. It is also a platform to showcase the talents and abilities of persons with special needs through the sale of limited-edition mask pouches.

2019

CapitaLand’s Raffles City Singapore collaborated with Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) to launch the ‘Arts in the City: We Love SINGApore’ exhibition in commemoration of Singapore Bicentennial and celebration of Singapore’s 54th birthday, where CHF pledged S$300,000 to benefit six charities under President’s Challenge 2019. Launched by Guest-of-Honour President Halimah Yacob, the exhibition featured 200 figurines of Singapore’s iconic mascot for kindness and graciousness – Singa the Lion, specially designed by individuals from all walks of life.

2018

CapitaLand pledged S$300,000 to President’s Challenge 2018 through a partnership between Raffles City Singapore and The Walt Disney Company for the launch of ‘Mickey Go Local’ exhibition. This donation benefitted six charities under President’s Challenge 2018 and was the first time CapitaLand is apportioning part of its donation to President’s Challenge towards helping the elderly.

2017

In 2017, CapitaLand’s #ChiongForCharity campaign – a call for the nation to give back to the community as they celebrate 50 years of National Service (NS50) – has been met with resounding support. Close to 90,000 public pledges to commemorate National Service were received during the Army Open House 2017 (AOH2017), and to mark the nation’s support for the campaign, CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF) is donating S$300,000 to benefit six children’s charities under President’s Challenge 2017 (PC2017).

2016


In 2016, CHF donated S$300,000 to President's Challenge through the CapitaLand #EatSnapGive campaign - an Instagram charity campaign themed on food running from 17 September to 21 October 2016 launched in conjunction with Worldwide InstaMeet 14 (WWIM14).

2015

In 2015, CHF donated S$300,000 to President’s Challenge through the CapitaLand #100KHopeHours Challenge.

2014

In celebration of Singapore’s National Day in August 2014, CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF) supported “My Singapore 2014: Moments of Love” National Day Charity Fund Raising Concert to raise funds for children charities under PC 2014. As the Presenting Charity Sponsor of the concert, CHF pledged to match dollar-for-dollar the proceeds raised from the concert. With a total of S$100,000 raised and CHF’s pledge, a S$200,000 donation was presented to His Excellency Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, President of the Republic of Singapore, at the concert at The Star Theatre on 12 August. Beyond donations, CapitaKids from China, whom CHF has been supporting under the CapitaKids Programme @ Arts Scheme since 2012, gave a memorable performance at the concert.

2013

In 2013, CHF donated S$100,000 to PC 2013's "Evening of Evergreens" Charity Gala 2013 to support voluntary welfare organisations that provide youth-at-risk with social-emotional skills development and acclimatising them for full time working environment.

2012

In 2012, 10 corporate donors each bought a limited edition Because iCare – Kai Kai and Jia Jia giant pandas philatelic frame in support of PC 2012. In addition to the amount donated by the corporations, CapitaLand raised more through the sale of exclusive panda eco-bags at 29 of its participating properties. CHF donated S$10 to PC 2012 with every eco bag sold at S$20. The total amount of funds raised was S$350,000.

2011

In 2011, in conjunction with the launch of CapitaLand Orchids, Cattleya CapitaLand and Phalaenopsis CapitaLand, 10 sets of the specially-minted blooms of the two prized hybridised orchid species were designed and sold to corporate donors to raise funds for PC 2011. CHF matched dollar-for-dollar towards the funds raised from the initiative, bringing the donation to a total of S$400,000 to benefit eight children beneficiaries under PC 2011. The Guest-of-Honour, His Excellency Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, unveiled the two orchids and received the cheque from CHF.

2010

In 2010, CapitaLand's donation of S$500,000 to President's Challenge, Singapore, was largely due to the charity sales of the book "Building People: Sunday Emails from a CEO Volume 2", written by Mr Liew Mun Leong.
