The China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City is a landmark bilateral project between China and Singapore. It is also the world's first eco-city jointly developed by the two countries with a planning area of about 30 sq km. As at end 2022, the built-up area at the Eco-City was 12.6 sq km.
The master developer of the Eco-City is Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Co., Ltd. (SSTEC), a joint venture between a Singapore consortium and a Chinese consortium. CapitaLand Development is one of the shareholders of the Singapore consortium.
Located in Tianjin Binhai New Area, the Eco-City is dedicated to establishing an
attractive and sustainable coastal urban environment for live, work and play.
Since construction began in 2008, it has successfully undergone a remarkable
transformation from a saline-alkaline land to a vibrant, green and innovative
smart city. Currently, the Eco-City is home to over 130,000 residents and
26,000 companies and institutions. It has earned the distinction of being
China’s first National Green Development Demonstration Zone. All
buildings in the Eco-City are green buildings. The Eco-City is also recognised as a pioneering
Smart City Pilot Zone, National Zero-Waste Pilot City, China’s Sponge City Pilot City, National
Green Building Base and National All-For-One Tourism Demonstration Zones.
Notably, smart-technology related industries account for 60% of the Eco-City’s
economic sectors.
The Eco-City is committed to fostering three major industries: smart technologies and services; culture, health and tourism; and green building and development. It has successfully attracted notable companies, including Huawei, Tencent, Toyota, Global Logistics Property, Keppel Corporation, Surbana-Jurong, Didi Chuxing, JD.com, Meituan, and Alibaba Pictures among others.
