- Power Down, Watt’s the Hurry?
Switch off lights and appliances when not in use to save energy.
Save around S$25 a year1 when you switch devices off at the power socket(s) when they are not in use.
- Shorter Showers, Big Splash
Take shorter showers and wash laundry on full load to conserve water.
Save up to 27 litres2 of water every day by turning off the shower when you soap.
- Reuse? Bag‑solutely!
Reduce waste by using reusable bags, bottles and containers.
Opt for refillable versions of products like soap and cleaning supplies to cut down on plastic waste.

Switch off lights and appliances when not in use to save energy.
Switch from gas hobs to induction hobs and save around S$103* a year. Did you know that induction hobs are also 3 times more efficient** than gas hobs?
Shorten showers, conserve water
Every minute you cut from your shower time can save approximately 9 litres of water. Let's all make a conscious effort to conserve water!
Collect rainwater for gardening- a free and sustainable source of water for your outdoor needs.
- Ditch disposables, switch to renewables
Reduce single-use packaging, and try reusable containers, utensils & bags instead.
Opt for refillable versions of products like soap and cleaning supplies. Refillable products can cut down on plastic waste significantly.

CapitaLand’s Let’s Get Down to Earth campaign returned with engaging activities at Funan and other malls, including unplugged performances at the Down to Earth Clubhouse, the SG Eco Fund Showcase with SPS Baey Yam Keng, and an Eco Marketplace featuring sustainable brands. Visitors also explored eco-themed exhibits by Temasek Polytechnic students under the Go Green Hub Design Project.
Somerset Zhongmao Changchun held a “Books for Vegetables” event where residents exchanged pre-loved books for organic vegetables. The books will be donated to charity or recycled, promoting sustainability and healthy living.

In celebration of Earth Hour, associates at International Tech Park Chennai brought sustainability to life by planting saplings around the campus. This hands-on initiative not only enriched the green landscape but also fostered a deeper connection to nature and a shared responsibility for the environment.
For Earth Hour 2025, Citadines Marina Halong hosted a blood donation drive and gardening activity, empowering staff and residents to support the community and promote sustainable living.
Melawati Mall welcomed 46 children from Rumah Amal Asnaf Al Barakh for two days of eco-themed workshops using recycled materials. The children also enjoyed a memorable shopping experience and iftar, supported by over eight sponsor partners. The event successfully fostered environmental awareness and kindness, bringing the community together in the spirit of giving.
An enchanting evening unfolded at Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila, where the community enjoyed a graceful LED-lit ballet performance, an engaging sustainability talk and quiz, and unique glow-in-the-dark drinks paired with the property’s signature dessert, creating a memorable blend of culture, creativity, and sustainability.
In a creative twist on sustainability awareness, the community at Ascott Jakarta in Indonesia participated in a glow-in-the-dark painting session. The activity encouraged self-expression through art while spotlighting environmental consciousness in a fun, interactive way.
In honour of Earth Hour’s spirit of sustainability and compassion, Ascott Rafal Olaya Riyadh organised a meaningful cloth donation drive and iftar meal distribution. The initiative brought the community together to reduce waste and support those in need highlighting how environmental and social responsibility can go hand in hand during Ramadan.

The much-anticipated Let’s Get Down to Earth sustainability festival returned to CapitaLand Malls and Workspace properties in Singapore, with a variety of interesting events to help discover the ease and joys of sustainable living while preserving and protecting our precious planet. Activities include the Earth Hour Special: Music Unplugged at our Down to Earth Clubhouse where a capella performances were held to encourage people to unplug from their digital devices, festival markets and sustainability-themed workshops.
Ascott Raffles City Chongqing brought guests back down memory lane with a Chinese puppet show by a cultural heritage artist as they enjoyed snacks from the 80s and 90s. This puppet show is conducted in the dark with light shining from the back of the screen to cast the shadows of the paper figures.
In conjunction with World Water Day and Earth Hour, staff from Citadines OMR Chennai shared with students from a local school about the importance of energy and water conservation. They also engaged with the school management, raising awareness about sustainability and inspiring the youth to take action and advocate for a more sustainable future.
Somerset properties in Vietnam embraced Earth Hour with a “Green Getaway” where guests and staff reconnected with nature, planting trees in national parks and mangrove reserves to contribute to environmental preservation.

3 Damansara and The Mines held fabric tote bag workshops where participants recycled an unused t-shirt into a reusable tote bag. This hands-on workshop inspired both young and old of the possibilities that their unused items can be transformed into.
Art met sustainability at lyf Malate Manila during their “Glow Art Night” in partnership with Dripsplash Philippines. Guests and associates unleashed their creativity with glow-in-the-dark paints, allowing their art to illuminate the path towards a sustainable future.

CapitaLand is participating in Earth Hour again this year, where properties will show their support for the planet and fight against climate change by switching off their façade lights and non-essential lighting throughout the night, beginning at 8.30pm (local time).
Want to join us in making a change? Start by switching off all non-essential lights at home!
More simple reminders for you to try out below.
- Actively switch it off
Many of our electrical appliances are constantly connected to the power sockets even when they are not in use. Switching off standby power when not in use can help to save around S$25 a year!
Switch off storage water heater after use to save about S$124 a year.
- Before it drips, turn it off
Up to 6 litres of water is wasted for every minute a tap runs, what more your shower! Turn off the shower and tap when soaping and brushing your teeth or use a mug to hold the water for rinsing your mouth.
Install adaptors to your water points to aerate your taps and showers. By introducing air into your water, you use less water while achieving the same water pressure.
- Choose no waste
About 40% of fruits and vegetables are wasted because they look ugly. Try them out for yourself and see that they can be as nutritious and tasty.

Shoppers in Singapore joined us in taking steps to make a positive impact on the evironment with the Project Green showcase at 3 CapitaLand malls through

- Participating in a variety of green workshops and activities
Project SPRINT has partnered Woh Hup to raise awareness among site staff on the importance of sustainability, in support of CapitaLand’s Earth Hour 2023. On the day of Earth Hour, in addition to switching off hoarding and non-essential lights, Project SPRINT also conducted an Earth Hour Mass Toolbox Meeting. During which, green practices such as reporting of water leakages and correct method for damaged pipes replacement were shared with the workers.
The CapitaLand 2023 "Eco Green Energy from Nature" themed event was held in CapitaMall Rock Square in Guangzhou, China from 24 March to 23 April. The Environmental Ambassador "Qiuzai" and Guangzhou citizens were invited to embark on the "Joy and Green" journey together along the five main activity areas of: Circular Qiuzai, Grass Planting Laboratory, Plastic Friendship Station, Green and Good Items, and an experiential area to produce customised green energy, providing customers with immersive nature spaces.
On the account of Earth Hour 2023, the Security department of Oakwood Pune proposed a sustainable initiative. They had filtered all the plastic water bottle waste and used the same to convert them into scented candle holders. These candles were then placed in the back-office areas.
As part of the Organic garden, staffs planted vegetables and succulents using parts of disposal furniture from the apartment.
Staff members at Oakwood Hotel & Apartments Saigon joined the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s marathon, alongside 1,000 other participants, to support Earth Hour. The marathon aimed to promote physical health among young people and raise awareness about reducing vehicle emissions that cause environmental pollution. Oakwood Hotel & Apartments Saigon is proud to support sustainable living and preserve our planet for future generations.
As part of the Earth Hour activity, Oakwood Hotel & Apartments Saigon's staff and residents have joined hands to support the "Waste Less, Recycle More" activity by donating over 10 kg of used plastic to Plastic People. This organisation specialises in transforming plastic waste into aesthetically pleasing, functional products that benefit both the environment and society. By donating used plastic to Plastic People, Oakwood Hotel & Apartments Saigon is taking a step towards reducing thier environmental impact and promoting a circular economy. They are excited to see how these transformed products will benefit our community and inspire others to waste less and recycle more!
In conjunction with Earth Hour and World Environmental Day, ‘Love Flows Where Green Goes' campaign at Gurney Plaza aimed to create awareness on sustainable future and nurturing “green” mindset. Gurney Plaza extension wing was transformed into a “Greentopia” by presenting a plant market and Serendipity Art Exhibition which showcased 43 students from Yeow Chye Art Studio. There were also planter painting & plant potting workshops for shoppers. 50 participants joined the workshops.
Citadines Sukhumvit 8 participated in the Earth Hour 2023 by:
- Introducing energy saving committee to employees
- Posting Earth Hour 2023 posters on energy saving board

You can also do more by trying out some of these simple tips below.
- Waste Less and Dispose Well
- The world is producing twice as much plastic waste as two decades ago. Switch to using resusable cutleries, containers and bags – it’s just a matter of getting used to it!
- A record high of 53.6 million tonnes of electronic waste was generated in 2019 globally, equivalent to the weight of 350 cruise ships! Repair your electronic equipment where possible, donate those in working condition or recycle them at designated e-waste bins!
- Save Every Drop
- Water covers about 71% of earth’s surface but only about 0.5% of that is usable fresh water. Take shorter showers, don’t let the tap run while brushing your teeth and wash your clothes on full load – remember that every drop counts!
- Cut down your shower by a minute and save nine litres of water!
- Lower Your Carbon Footprint
- The transport sector contributes approximately one quarter of all energy related greenhouse gas emissions as it is predominantly based on the combustion of fossil fuels. Walk or cycle to lower your carbon footprint and enjoy the sights along the way!
- Switch to public transport as a car with a driver uses 9 times the energy used by a bus and 12 times that of a train on a per passenger-kilometre travelled basis.

The Citadines Fusionopolis team and guests commemorated Earth Hour 2022 with miniature plants.
Ascott Raffles City Beijing and Raffles City Residences Beijing engaged their guests for Earth Hour 2022 by inviting them for a vegetable planting activity. Young and old also had fun decorating their own reusable bag, to encourage them not to use single-use plastic bags.
Somerset Airport Zone Tianjin invited guests to celebrate Earth Hour 2022 by decorating their own potted plants while learning about learning about sustainability and how to lead a low-carbon lifestyle.
Tree saplings from local nurseries were planted at business parks in Chennai, Hinjewadi, Kharadi, and Pune by staff volunteers in support of Earth Hour 2022.
CapitaLand Vietnam hosted a Green Workshop for staff to celebrate Earth Hour 2022.

In conjunction with Earth Hour & Earth Day, CapitaLand rallied our Workspace community to do their part for the environment. Through the Let’s Get Down To Earth campaign, tenants were invited to contribute to the community’s green idea bank, participate in Earth Hour, and join a green workshop.
Through a call for submissions, our community had shared many creative and practical green ideas adopting the following themes: curbing food waste, household tips on saving water and electricity and/or recycling at home or at work. With all these great ideas, we have built our very own green idea bank. We hope to inspire the community to continue to think sustainably and how to adopt green habits into our daily routine. Nine winners walked away with $200 e-CapitaVouchers each!

What can recycled cans be used for? Residents and staff of Ascott Midtown Suzhou participated in the collection of recycled aluminum cans which were transformed into a creative art installation. The cans were pieced together to form a beautiful grand rainbow arch.
Staff volunteers obtained tree saplings from local nurseries and planted them in business parks such as CyerVale IT Park and International Tech Park Pune in support of Earth Hour.
Steel straws and eco-wheat cutleries were distributed to long-staying guests at Ascott Kuala Lampur, Somerset Damansara Uptown Petaling Jaya respectively, to encourage guests to reduce usage of single-use plastics by switching to a more sustainable option.
Citadines Cebu City staff celebrated Earth Hour 2021 with CapitaFrog planters and eco lamps made from recycled soda bottles, used glass jars, used oil, cotton and used craft paper bags. These upcycled items were displayed across the property to inspire guests to recycle in a fun and creative way. The eco lamps were also used to illuminate the pool area during Earth Hour.
A “Earth Hour – Us Hour” themed kids' drawing contest saw young residents from each property drawing what they imagine a day in a clean environment; without any high-rise buildings, electronic devices, or vehicles would look like. The drawings were displayed in the lobby of each property, where residents voted for their favourite drawing.

More than 260 CapitaLand properties around the world will take part in WWF’s Earth Hour movement to #Connect2Earth in the month of March 2019. On 30 March 2019 night, we will switch off our façade lights and non-essential lighting throughout the night from 8.30 pm (local time).

On 22 March 2019, 29 CapitaLand staff volunteers and 10 children joined Ms Stella Cochrane, co-founder of Trash Hero Singapore for a coastal cleanup activity at Coney Island. From the beach cleanup, the volunteers learnt to minimise marine plastic pollution as well as the importance of preserving Singapore’s water resources.
Over 110 kg of trash was was collected over a 50 metre stretch along the beach in one hour, with single-use plastic making up most of the trash collected, including 114 plastic bottles and 80 pieces of styrofoam. Unique items collected include large plastic drum barrels, washing machine lid, motorcycle helmet, sepak takraw (rattan ball), Ken doll, etc.

Designated collection points for old cosmetic bottles and used items across 40 CapitaLand malls in China

40 CapitaLand malls in China have partnered with Terracycle (recycling company) and local artists to encourage shoppers to recycle their empty cosmetic bottles and donate old/used items. This recycling initiative aims to upcycle old/used items into unique works of art that will be unveiled during the Earth Hour at CapitaMall Tiangongyuan in Beijing and CapitaMall Hongkou in Shanghai. These art pieces and the remaining bottles will be sent for recycling after the two-week exhibition.
4 CapitaLand malls in China have partnered with a non-profit organisation, Roots & Shoots (an NGO founded by environmentalist Dr Jane Goodall), to conduct upcycling workshops for the shoppers. Shoppers can learn how to create unique handicrafts and objects from recyclables at these workshops.
The re-purposed items will be displayed to inspire and encourage shoppers to reuse and recycle old and unwanted items.

To celebrate Earth Hour 2019, CapitaLand staff from Malaysia came up with an educational video on how small changes can make a difference for a better planet.

6 CapitaLand malls in Malaysia are encouraging shoppers to reduce their use of single-use plastics by switching to a more sustainable option.
With just 500STAR$, shoppers can redeem a set of stainless steel straw at the 6 malls from 18 March onwards.
Where: Gurney Plaza, 3 Damansara, East Coast Mall, Melawati Mall, Queensbay Mall and The Mines (while stocks last)
Gurney Plaza collaborated with their tenant Neubodi once again to encourage shoppers to donate their old or unused bras. The bras collected will be sorted, reused, recycled or donated to third-world countries.
Shoppers also won Neubodi and Guardian cash vouchers, biodegradable paper straws and Eggette by playing the "Wheel of Fortune" with every 5 old or unused bras donated!

In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, over 230 kg of trash were collected by 41 volunteers. Similar environment cleanup activities in cities such as Hanoi, Danang and Nha Trang have also been planned.
On 29 March, about 200 residents, shoppers and tenants from The Vista, Vista Verde, PARCSpring, Krista, Kris Vue, The Oxygen, Faifo Lane, Somerset and Citadines properties along with CapitaLand Vietnam and Ascott staff, will be participating in a mass Zumba activity under the stars. They will learn how to sort through their trash and recycle properly, and receive a gift.
On 17 March, 34 staff from Somerset Norodom Phnom Penh spent 2 hours clearing the rubbish in the park located in front of Kep Provincial Hall. The staff picked up more than 30 kg of trash and disposed them properly into the bins.
n 17 March, 34 staff from Somerset Norodom Phnom Penh took part in a 2 hours long Mangrove Tree Planting Day. The staff planted a total of 50 mangrove plant saplings in the backwaters of Kampot area.
Manila Bay Cleanup Drive
On 30 March, 16 staff from Citadines Bay City Manila (CBCM) joined 300 participants from Metro Manila Development Authority, Fire Bureau and Local Government Unit of Manila in cleaning up the Baseco Compound Area of Manila Bay.
The team from CBCM picked up more than 150 kg of trash over 1 kilometre radius of the bay. The trash collected were disposed of properly afterwards by the Local Government of Manila.

Earth Hour 2017
Over 280 CapitaLand properties across the world will show their support for the fight against climate change by switching off their façade lights and non-essential lighting for extended hours throughout the night, beginning 8.30pm (local time) on Saturday, 25 March 2017. A whole slew of activities, ranging from cycling to tree planting events to promote a low carbon lifestyle, and environment cleanups have also been planned to raise environmental awareness and activism to encourage CapitaLand’s staff, tenants, and customers to lead a more sustainable lifestyle.

CapitaLand's Global Earth Hour Campaign 2019
CapitaLand has been participating in Earth Hour every year since its inception in 2008 in Singapore. This year, over 260 properties are coming together to combat climate change. If you're in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam or China, be sure to also check out special highlights!
On 22 March (World Water Day), up to 40 CapitaLand staff volunteers will be teaming up with Trash Hero Singapore for a beach cleanup activity at Coney Island. It will be a day of exercise, community and environmentalism!
The activity aims to educate volunteers on reducing plastic wastage and recycling right. Trash collected will be sorted, weighed and sent to recycling facilities. Data collected will also be shared with international organisations such as International Coastal Cleanup Singapore (ICCS), Trash Hero World and 5 GYRES. Stay tuned for more!
In support of PUB's Singapore World Water Day (SWWD) campaign, 12 CapitaLand properties nationwide will be hosting public roadshows to spread the message of water conservation and water saving tips.

Neighbourhood Cleanup @ Parc Spring
On the 15th March, up to 60 staff from Somerset Chancellor Court HCMC, Somerset HCMC, Somerset Vista and Citadines Regency Saigon will be taking part in the neighbourhood cleanup @ Parc Spring.
Neighbourhood Cleanup @ Blue Cove Danang
On the 29th March, up to 30 staff from Citadines Blue Cove Danang will be taking part in the neighbourhood cleanup.
Beach Cleanup @ Nha Trang
On the 29th March, up to 50 staff from Citadines Bayfront Nha Trang will be cleaning up the Nha Trang Beach.
Last year, up to 30 dishes of green and organic food were cooked and served by Ascott staff in Ho Chi Minh City.
Over 300 staff and guests from CapitaLand Vietnam and The Ascott Limited visited the bazaar and funds raised will go to a local charity.
