Charging Up at CapitaLand Malls and Workspaces

With electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) gaining traction in Singapore, the demand for charging points is also increasing. Let's take a look at where you can charge your vehicle at CapitaLand's properties, as well as charging etiquettes one should observe.

The Move to Electric

With a 17-fold increase in sales of electric vehicles (EVs) in 2021 and over 10% of all new car registrations being EVs for the first time ever in 2022, the transition towards EVs is rapidly gaining momentum. It's not just pure EVs either - plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) have also seen a rise in popularity, reducing tailpipe emissions and increasing the efficiency of traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. At CapitaLand, we recognise this fast-paced adoption and growing popularity of plug-in vehicles. That's why we are playing our part by working with partners to build up the charging network at our properties, helping to ease the transition to a more sustainable transportation future.

Charging Etiquettes

Despite the growing number of charging points available, it's important to not take them for granted and practice common courtesy when using a public charging station.

Here are a few charging etiquettes to follow to avoid any inconvenience to others:

1. Keep It Accessible
Move your vehicle as soon as you've completed charging to ensure the charging point is accessible for the next user. You can also monitor the charge on the provider's app or your vehicle's charging feature to check its status and resolve any issues which may have caused it to stop. If necessary, return to your vehicle to shift it out of the designated charging lot.

2. Plug In On The Correct Side
EVs and PHEVs can have charge port(s) in a variety of places, such as the left, right, front, back or a combination of both sides. To avoid causing inconvenience to others, ensure that your vehicle is plugged in with the designated charge point for the lot.

3. Keep It Tidy
No one likes a messy public space. After charging is complete and your vehicle is unplugged, make sure to return the charging port to its designated holder. Also, ensure that the cables are tidy, untangled and do not obstruct any pedestrian walkway or the parking lot.

4. Charge At The Right Speed
As each charging point has different power outputs, it is important to select one that best meets your vehicle's needs. Unless your car can handle high-power inputs or you need a quick fill-up, try to avoid using rapid DC chargers. This will free up the chargers for those who require an emergency top-up.

5. [BONUS] Spread The Word
Did you have a positive or negative experience using a charging point? You can use apps like PlugShare to share updates or inform others of any issues, thus helping them to avoid faulty ones. Similarly, spreading the word about a new or repaired charging point will be beneficial to those who are searching for a charging point.

More Than Chargers

Beyond providing charging points at our properties, CapitaLand's workspaces are also equipped with end-of-trip facilities and cycling paths with lush greenery to motivate people to cycle or even walk, encouraging a more car-lite lifestyle. Read more all about it in a previous article here

Disclaimers:

Unless stated otherwise, charging points listed above are all supplied by SP Group and use a Type 2 connecter for AC charging and/or a CCS2 connector for DC charging. Charging providers' app is required to activate and pay for charging points. Not all cars will be able to take full advantage of charging points with higher power outputs and some may even have incompatible charging ports. Please check with your dealer or manufacturer regarding your vehicle's charging capabilities. Certain locations may have fewer designated charging lots than charging points. Parking fees may apply.

Locations and charging points are updated as of 26 January 2024. For any enquiries or feedback on this list, please email ywc@capitaland.com. Please contact the charging provider directly if there are any issues with the charging points.
