MUJI originated from Japan in 1980, and was known then as Mujirushi Ryohin, which translates to “no brand quality goods”. This was intended to be the brand’s philosophy, as patrons are convinced to buy MUJI products not for its brand name, but for the quality and functional design which their products were intended for. As such, MUJI offers a wide range of high quality products such as household goods, apparel and food in all their outlets be it in Japan or in Singapore. MUJI holds steadfast to three core principles that remain unchanged to this day, namely, the simplification of packaging, efficient streamlining of processes and the meticulous selection of materials. All of MUJI’s products embody these principles, designed not for minimalism but to achieve highest efficiency and versatility by shedding unnecessary aesthetics. Through this concept, MUJI orient themselves to the basis and universality of daily life. To date, MUJI stores can be found across the world, over 700 stores carrying more than 7000 products from household goods and food to clothing and stationery. Currently, MUJI stores in Singapore can be found in CapitaLand malls, Bugis Junction, Plaza Singapura and Raffles City Shopping Centre.
